Chili is a great meal on these cooler nights. It’s also a good way to use some of those garden fresh tomatoes. I thought everyone knew how to make chili, though no two people I know make it the same way. Then one night one of my nieces reached out to me to tell her how we make chili our way. She was in the mood for it and was about to go shopping. She wanted to make sure she had all the ingredients she needed to make it that night. So now that I know there might be a few people out there that want to know how, here is our recipe.
- 1 1/2 lbs of Ground Beef
- 3 cups Diced Tomatoes
- 3 cans Chili Beans
- 1 can Pinto Beans
- 1 can Great Northern Beans
- 1 can Black Beans
- Small Onion chopped
- 1 Clove Garlic or 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 or 2 teaspoons of Chili Powder
- Pepper and crushed red peppers if you like it hotter
Scramble the ground beef in a large pot. When the ground beef is browned, drain the grease off. Not down the sink though! Add the rest of the ingredient to the pot and cook on medium low until it starts to boil. Turn off the the heat and let cool a little before serving. As are many of our recipes, this can be adapted to your taste. If you do not like one kind of beans listed just leave it out an extra can of beans that you do like. If you do not like onions leave them out. Use what you like best and make it your style.
